T065 - Greco Roman Ring Temple
A Ring Temple or Tholos is an architectural feature that was widely used in the classical world. It is a circular structure, usually built upon steps creating a podium, with a ring of columns that sometimes supported a domed roof.
In Roman cities, they could often be found in the centre of the market. Other uses for this central temple were the place where official weights and measures were held for reference or as shrines to the gods of the marketplace.
Some markets had a water fountain or water feature in the centre of their courtyard some had this circular structure.
